The Act takes effect on Nov. 1, 2021, but mandates that required licensees implement an Information Security Program (ISP) by Nov. 1, 2022. The Act requires certain licensees to take preventative measures to combat and handle cybersecurity events, including:

  • Performance of a risk assessment
  • Implementation of an information security program (ISP)- Includes appointing an employee as your agency’s Privacy Officer.
  • Development of an incident response plan
  • Submission of an annual certification of compliance to the OCI
  • Investigation of cybersecurity events
  • Provision of notifications to the OCI and others regarding the unauthorized acquisition of personal information

The IIAW's General Counsel is lead by the team at Godfrey & Kahn. The Association frequently receives member inquiries seeking advice that requires legal counsel. In many instances, the questions can be answered quickly by the experienced legal team at Godfrey & Kahn. The Association believes that extending Hotline Legal Services is a valuable addition to the extensive services available to Big "I" members.

There are two ways to access Hotline Legal Services—telephone and e-mail. Whichever method you choose, you will receive a response within one business day, if not immediately.
